Capcom Offers Custom D-Pad With Release of Street Fighter Alpha 3 on PSP

As wonderful as the PSP might be for pulling off some swank 2D graphics, fighting game fans have complained since the release of DarkStalkers with the handheld's launch that the D-Pad was no good for pulling off many of the basic moves in a consistent fashion. Capcom has listened to the cries of gamers and is offering up an adhesive D-Pad which sits on top of the existing one (but, reportedly works quite well) if you buy the upcoming port of Street Fighter Alpha 3 from their website. Be warned that the pad is not officially sanctioned by Sony and may void your system warranty, but reports from fighter fans who purchased the attachment with the import version of the game say the difference is like night and day.

- I never announced we were doing resin SF statues.. I said I would like to and its a possibility...If we did we would be working together w Udon on them

- No pics of the 'dirty' 2 pack yet...

- U will never see two females in a SF line

- I dont know when the line will go online only but not before Round 6

- Darkstalkers will do alright..it wont do what SF did in the begining though.

- Buying the figures is all I can ask anyone to do to support the continuation of the line.. buying them before they go on clearance is good as well ;)

- You wont see final Darkstalkers for a few more months...they shold be out mid late summer

- SF 5 didnt get finished in time for Toy Fair..so no pics ..sorry

- SF 4 is on the water so they should be in stores by end of feb/early mar ( first time we've made it close to announced release date !)

- SF 6 vote..after TF

- Darkstalkers 2 vote...closer to summer

- no plans on getting EX SF characters...I hate to disappoint but its just not worth the dough

ah dont be nervous about us... truthfully SOTA is very lucky we entered the toy biz AFTER the action figure boom. Many of the current companies experienced 'printing money' from 1999-2004 and grew very quickly..so when the market tanked it hurt them much more than SOTA which just started manufacturing in 2004. We never had a chance to grow larger before the bust. We laid a few people off last summer when I saw this coming and now we are back to 4 people in the office.. same as it was when we started.

Ive seen the changing tides since last spring and we began preparations for it by obtaining a very large licence for high end collectibles which will do very well for us ( announcement soon but its not action figures). Our biggest problem has been the very 'shady' factory we were using ( which Mezco told me NOT to use..lol - so its my own fault). I cant legally go into details but lets just say they ripped us off.

We are getting the new factory up and running which is why you havent seen much from us in the way of news...it takes a while to get their quality up to the standards our fans expect from us. Towards the fall, when the factory is 100% up and running SOTA will be 'back in the game' so to speak.

I consider us very lucky as I know the serious problems many companies are currently having.

P.S. no flame but to everyone who is raggin on McFarlane for moving into Hanna Barbera, Simpsons, etc... thats what they have to do to survive..sales of the 'intense', 'graphic' stuff is in the gutter..thats why NECA is releasing 7000000 products this year.. the profit margin is so low they have to triple output to make the same money they made a year ago. As for us..I've decided to just slow down and keep it simple...I dont want to be a player in what I see to be a no-win game.

So thank you for supporting us and I apologize for the snails pace we are currently going at.

Jerry

- I dont think we'll ever see a 'jerry' head on anything..lol..lets be thankful for that.

- Guilty Gear - no plans right now.

- There are two bodies for the Dolls..'busty' and 'not so busty'. As for which body gets used for which girl..well its a bit premature so we havent had that discussion..but it will probably be Capcom making the decision

- Pricing on Dolls ,etc...havent put much thought into it yet. We will allow certain online stores to carry them in other countries IF they order them...it'll be up to them not me.

- I doubt we'll do variant colors on the dolls. And they will come with accessories

- theres a chance the 'scarring blow' 2 ack will be released but not with blood..with dirt. Capcom is adamant about them not beign bloody. Ive seen the protos..they look cool

- Demitri...Im sorry I havent taken pics yet..Im a bad bad person :(

- No plans for us to be at any cons other than SDCC , NJ Chiller and Fangocon in LA

- I prefer neither Juli or Juni...I like Noembelu cuz I dig tha latin women :)

- Gouken is always a possibility...keep your fingers crossed

- the Ryu/Sagat 2 pack should be hitting Xtreme Toys in the next week or so

- I have some ideas as to who I want to begin the online only figures with..but havent firmed it up

- Dark Sakura was supposed to have her name on it..I think the japanese version does..once again the factory screwed up and we had shipping commitments..lets all be thankful after round 4 they are history

I have to run..if I missed your q post it again...

- no plans for 18" Ryu..

- No plans for the 'old' Resident Evil series. Capcom wouldnt want anyone to do it now anyway as they are concentrating on building off of RE:4

- Kingtigre..answer to your hypothetical question. What happens if 'Dr. Strange' sits on the Walmart shelf and goes to clearance is that Walmart charges ToyBiz the difference between what they paid and what they are now selling it for. Retailers rarely take a loss..they put all the burden on the manufacturer..which is why I always find it so funny that retailers are constantly going out of business...by the way the retailers also lie a lot about how much is left. Back on Tomb Raider, Musicland called to say they had half their inventory still in the warehouse and couldnt sell it...so they wanted to charge us for it. I said I'd fly out to the warehouse and get a truck to bring it back to SOTA.. they never brought the subject up again..why? BECAUSE THEY DIDNT HAVE THEM and were just trying to extort money from us.. They're sneaky and scummy ( except for Tower Records and Hot Topic who are very honest ).

- Red Earth..not likely...Im sorry

- SF 4 is already packed and shipping from China..so we couldnt change the Akuma pack out even if I wanted to.

- I havent thought about who to lock in for SF 6 yet...but it wont be Cody or Oro. It will be the headliner and neither of them are headlining.

- I spoke with Capcom today and we might do some Street Fighter resin...thats a MIGHT...dont jump the gun and say we're doing it yet.

Black Gen update...

i dont have time to explain but Black gen doesnt exist anymore except in Japan... those suckers are goin to be worth big bucks

Factory ( one we're leaving) painted them blue...ugh

so get your Dark Sakura now cuz there aint gonna be a black Gen

Guys 'I' dont even have a black gen....and from what I hear they are all sold out in Japan so I cant get any.

No one is more PO'd than I am.

Did the factory do it on purpose because we're leaving them or are these screw ups why we're leaving them ? Well Its a little of both.

As is usual with these guys they lied to me..they sent me pics showing black gens and then sent blue ones..the pics must have been the japan order. They NEVER told me until we got them in the warehouse and opened a case...

I think ML are good for a mass market line...but if I were doing them I'd make your head spin :)

CAPCOM ANNOUNCES STREET FIGHTER ALPHA ANTHOLOGY

CAPCOM PACKS A PUNCH WITH STREET FIGHTER ALPHA ANTHOLOGY FOR THE PLAYSTATION2 COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM

-Five Prized Arcade Fighters United for First Time-

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – January 24, 2006 – You win! The ultimate in arcade brawlers comes home as Capcom® today announced Street Fighter® Alpha Anthology for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, a monumental compilation of the entire Street Fighter® Alpha arcade series. The collection features direct arcade conversions of StreetFighter® Alpha, Street Fighter® Alpha 2, Street Fighter® Alpha 2 Gold and Street Fighter® Alpha 3 which have never before been available together in one package. As an added bonus, the “pint-sized” Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix® (also released on consoles as Pocket Fighter®), is included which brings the total to five action packed games on one disc. Street Fighter Alpha Anthology is scheduled for release throughout North America in summer 2006. To date, the Street Fighter franchise has sold more than 27million units worldwide.

All titles in the collection feature three core gameplay options. Arcade mode pits competitors against a series of CPU controlled opponents in order to beat the game. Versus mode allows two players to choose among the cast of characters for intense head-to-head battles. Fighters can practice special moves and combos to hone their skills in the training mode. Additionally, all four Alpha titles feature survival mode as well as a dramatic battle mode which allows 2-on-1 tagteam matches.

Street Fighter Alpha brings together a cast of 13 characters from the collective Street Fighter universe. The series’ inaugural title introduces super combos and alpha counters to add a new dimension to fighting. Street Fighter Alpha2 ups the ante with 18 fighters and several new options including high and low Alpha counters as well as more moves and combos for each character. In addition, the second title launches the Custom Combo system which lets players use up a super meter to perform devastating multi-hit combos. Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold is an enhanced version of the previous game featuring different versions of some of the characters. The most robust entry, Street Fighter Alpha 3, includes an unprecedented 25 characters and offers players the choice of three “isms” fighting styles made popular in previous Street Fighter games. Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix rounds out the anthology with miniature versions of popular Capcom fighters in fierce battles. Combatants vie to collect power-up gems as they perform an array of special attacks and powerful combos.

Max Factory Capcom Evolution Has Been Cancelled...

Here in the U.S. but still available for order overseas.

Sad, these are pretty cool...

High-Dream CvSII ToyLine Update# 1

This line with so much potential might not make it to series 3, this line need all the support from all us SF fans- more then ever! Here are some posts by High-Dream...

So if that "big chain store" doesn't pick these up, they will never be sold in the US? Also, will these ever be sold in Japan?

- Yep, if they do not pick up the line, we stop, pure and simple, no more release, nowhere. dead line is 10th February. I have very little hope though...

- Repainted series 1 in blister :) , we prepared this for that BIG chain store...

Yeah HD. Is that new package series 1 for the Japan release? Are the eyes on the Ryu still looking up? Will these be released in the US at all? PM does not seem to know about these new packages as they are only selling the series 1 in the original box package.

- Lower posisiton than before, but still looking up a little bit anyway. PM had the new package (blister) in their hands 1 week ago for their meeting with that chain store, so its really strange if they say they don't know anything about it now. not a good sign IMO.... : (

- Alright guys.....if you want to support us more than by buying our figures, thanks a bunch for that. But since we don't want to cause any trouble at a marketing level cause I believe that playground maniacs company is still negotiating with that chain store, all ppl willing to help should call playground maniacs and ask them what they can do to help us to save the cvs2 line, who to contact at that chain store etc....., you see that chain store is so big that you need to know exactly where and who to contact for your request to be effective. Thanks again !!!

-Of course by buying you support us. Fans are the only ppl who can really help us, this line, we highly appreciate your help . And we have many fans, we know it. The problem is only when the fans can't buy our stuff because they can't find them, it's really sad. Frankly I think we are working hard on every line we make...not only Capcom vs snk 2, so far all the stuff we made are things that we really wanted to make, tings based on character that I watched on TV as a kid or played at the arcade game center or on my PC engine. My work could be different if we were buying license just because it is famous and got a high potential for large distribution and generate lots of money...I really don't know, I'll try to stick to what I really like, it makes me happy... and ppl around me happy I believe. So now I fixed a dead line for the CVS2 AF series production, if by 10th February we do not have firm confirmation from that chain store (through PM actually), I'll drop that project.

- Time to answer some questions...

- I plan on creating limited runs of cerrtain SF characters to only sell over the web. Its the only way we'll get through everyone.

- Is my interest in SF waning...whenever you take a hobby and turn it into business you end up seeing it in a different light. Having said that i havent rreally lost any of my passion for Street Fighter, but I dont really get to enjoy the game and or anime anymore..I cant look at it objectively anymore.

- Last figure I sculpted was Mega Darkness..I just couldnt find the time to do it anymore..things were too busy between running film comapny and running toy company. Having said that over the Xmas holiday I set up a little sculpting table in my house and started a Godzilla figure ( just for fun). The only sculpt I plan on doing this year for SOTA is the Blairmonster from The THing..stuff like Street Fighter is just too time consuming and truthfully Will and Aaron are now better at fully articulated figures than I am :)

- Ibukis new hip joint..we tried but it wasnt working.. Still fiddlin with morrigan

- Darkstalkers will be carried in most of the places Street Fighter is carried in. They just wont have as many. DS wave 1 is summer..2 will be early 07

- I just havent had any time to take pics of Demitri...hes sitting in my office.

- Akumas gi is the same as Ryu/Ken..so the ab joint moves but to reallly get use out of it you;d have to take the gi off

- Juni/Juli will have more butt than cammy..yes cammy is 'butt-lite'..when we make the Dolls they will all be in correct colors including their ties.

- Akuma is heavily packed per case..there shouldnt be any problems finding them.

- I think Akuma is too big for Third Strike Ryu.

- Will and the rest of the sculptors are swamped so in answer to 'who are the toughest critics'...it depends on the character...for Street Fighter I would say the fans. For Now Playing I would say myself...for an unannounced project we are currently doing I would say the sculptors.

- International Shipping..I have told Jed he HAS to have international shipping in palce by the time SF 4 hits...thats the best I can do.

- I havent had any SF 4 break yet.

- I believe our UK distributor ordered some of all SF 4 variants

- SF 5 looks good...its will and aaron..what do you think ? :)
- SF4 should actually be in UK around mid/late Feb

- The 'Big' unannounced license will be shown around Toy Fair..as I said its not really toy related...But it will be good for SOTA

- Why dont we try and get our hands on some Marvel licenses...you never know right? But I can tell you right now theres no way they woould ever let us do anything action figure-ish or articulated...ESPECIALLY now that Hasbro is involved.

- Contact Jed@sotatoys.com for figure replacement..there are no fees...use your best judgement to determine if the breakage was your fault or the figures fault.

- We dont have any plans to expand on the Street Fighter product line...I wanted to..I really did...but then everyone jumped on our band wagon and now theres way too much SF stuff out there. So nope.

- I believe Udon has the master resin/statue license for SF..I wish theyd make more stuff cuz I want it !

- I dont see the SOTA staff cosplaying..though we will have our Booth Babe Shadow Lady Chun Li at SDCC ! I was going to go as Akuma for Halloween but I didnt have time to sculpt the costume..'not having time' is the story of my life lately...

- We've sculpted some accessory packs...but theyre sort of on hold while we find a new factory to produce SF 5...
- I will not pick a SF round myself.

- The SF Ryu/Sagat 2 pack is an Extreme Toys exclusive..they have the right to then sell them to anyone they please including Toyfare..but I dont know the details of whats going on with that.

-Mr. Discord glad you like the rotos... we made a mistake and priced them too high..because of that they diidnt sell all that well and the stores are reluctant to take a series 2.

- SF 4 should hit International mid/late Feb and USA early/mid March

- If I didnt get to your question sorry I just ran out of time ! Have to run..

Has Sota broken the Resaurus curse?

- I think the curse was broken a while back...Even if a catastrophe occured SF 5 would still at the very least get made and thats so much further than any other company ever made it and further than anyone ever expected SOTA to make it.

As for what happens after 5 ? SOTA is ready and willing to go the distance if the fans show the support by buying enough of Round 4 and 5...

As you may have heard Musicland filed bankruptcy...its going to be harder and harder to find a 'collectors' line ( and NO Marvel Legends is NOT a collectors line ) at chain store retail. Most of this type of product is going to end up being web sold and/or comic store sold...thats the future.

SOTA is a very small company so we can weather this storm...but I feel for the companies that are bigger than us but smaller than Hasbro/Mattel etc as times are going to be very difficult for them.

I was reading Michael Crawfords assesment of the collector industry earlier and he's right on target in that its shrinking every day.

Among several online game options is an exclusive mode called "Quarter Match", which introduces a new way of relivingthe exhilarating arcade experience at home. Xbox 360 users can connect to the Xbox Live online game service and access Xbox Live Arcade to download a free, feature-limited version of the game which offers two playable characters for one match.

When they are ready for the ultimate retro gaming experience, users can then unlock the full version of the game, enabling players to choose from all eight original characters as well as four boss characters, each with their own special endings and home levels.
