Numbers are supposed to be impressive, right? Well, it's been 10 years, two hardware generations, and about seventeen thousand rumors since the last pure number Street Fighter came around. And today we have the first ever official details on Street Fighter IV.

We don't blame you if your eyes have already skipped down to the screenshot lower on the page (yes, that's from the game engine). Take your time. But we've got some information as well, so the rest of this is probably worth reading when you get a chance.

Though the screenshot doesn't answer this question outright, we can confirm that the game's graphics are polygonal but the gameplay is strictly 2D. There will be new moves, locations, and gameplay features, while the standard six button control scheme remains. Ryu and Ken return along with Chun-Li and Dhalsim, but beyond that the character roster is a mystery. And then there's the issue of what platform(s) the game will end up on, which at this point Capcom is keeping close to its chest (if you search 1UP's database, you'll find listings for arcade, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, but those are just guesses based on the graphical quality).

For the full reveal of the game -- including hands-on impressions, a rundown of the new gameplay system, and loads of details on new features -- look for the January 2008 issue of EGM in stores soon and hitting subscribers any day now. October 19, 2007 - It's been months since Capcom announced the redesigning of their classic fighting franchise with Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. The game was finally on display at Capcom's recent Gamer's Day, which highlighted the upgraded gameplay with new artwork and 1080p visuals, although purists will be able to select the classic 4:3 design if they want. Capcom did not allow screens or video of the project to be released, but it was at least playable for the first time. We took on all comers and tested our skills with the new title, which should be coming to PS3s and 360s in Q1 2008.

Although the demo build at the event only featured Ryu and Ken as playable fighters, we observed that all 17 of the original Super Street Fighter II Turbo will be selectable within the game. That includes familiar characters such as Bison and Akuma. Players will be able to check out a training mode that will allow them to hone their skills before trying on their opponents via online play or the same console. Players will not only have continual updating from rankings and stats that tracks your win/loss record across all of the game characters, but they'll be able to spectate match-ups with "virtual quarters" as they await their turn.

What was very impressive was the visual presentation of the title, which clearly utilized the redrawn textures of Udon Entertainment to present the game action. Reminiscent of the animated Street Fighter movies, all of the backgrounds were extremely sharp and popped off the screen. The jaggies that players were once accustomed to were gone, and the details in the background, particularly the "busier" stages, looked much crisper. For example, Balrog's Vegas level, Ken's dockside stage and Blanka's village really stood out, with the background characters cheering on the fighters. The warriors themselves looked as though they benefited from the enhancement, with larger character models and smoothed out textures.

While it was only playable on the 360, we noticed that the standard controller issues that affected the 360 for the earlier Xbox Live Hyper Fighting release still affect this title. The Directional Pad is still a weak choice for inputting commands and maneuvering smoothly during a fight. The analog stick is a much better option for tossing fireballs or dragon punches, as well as triggering super attacks. The arcade stick with redesigned button layout for fighting is obviously the best, as you can trigger moves much easier with the joystick.

This is a live report just released from Capcom Gamer's Day in London. Street fighter 4 is curently in production as well as Lost Planet for the PS3. Here is the full list of announcements.

Street Fighter 4
Development has just begun and the release of the game is more than a year away. No platforms are yet confirmed - a highly stylised animated concept trailer of Ryu and Ken fighting was shown, but no game footage.

Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice
A new character and new series starring a rookie lawyer. Phoenix Wright makes an appearance but is not the lead character. Made specifically for DS.

Lost Planet (PS3)
Avaialable early next year and will include all bonus characters from the PC version and extra downloadable content from the 360 version making it the complete package. Made possible with Blu-ray. 16 player online over the PSN.

Dark Void
A new sci-fi action-adventure IP. Trailer showed third-person and air-vehicle gameplay with a character wearing a steam punk jetpack, skydiving and landing in the cockpit of a gyroscopic aircraft, and then jumping and climbing through airbase fortesses.

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD (Xbox Live Arcade)
The game will feature a spectator mode and is scheduled for a 2008 while the team try and get zero lag for the online mode. Also features stat tracking and widescreen. Original music from Street Fighter 2 will be used, plus remixed versions of all those tunes.

Wii Love Golf
From the Everybody's Golf team comes a cutesy golf sim, that looks slightly more technical than the PlayStation versions. Players can fade or draw the ball by twisting the Wii-mote when taking a swing.

July 2, 2007 - Street Fighter HD is shaping up to be a nice gift to 2D fighting fans, but the real question on everyone's mind is will Capcom take the bold step of making an original 2D fighter. The answer was provided over the weekend.

Capcom has opened up a teaser website for an original 2D fighting game. Set to be properly unveiled shortly, the game is said to be the first original 2D fighter from the company in three years.

Backlash leads to Street Fighter II HD Remix alterations.

As it has done for the past few weeks, Capcom posted new character sketches from the forthcoming Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix on Monday. Though we saw a handful of mixed responses to Udon's new design in the comments section of our news story, the original post on the Capcom Digital blog was bombarded with more than 100 responses, many of them negative.

Another post was added to the blog today, this time with a message from Producer Rey Jimenez about the backlash and what they plan to do about it:

"Well it was a pretty rough week for Guile. Reaction to his new artwork ranged pretty widely. Thanks for all the feedback. We are definitely listening. I won't go into specifics, but we are considering revising some of his look based on the reactions I've been reading on the blog and many of the boards I keep up with."

Jimenez noted that not every suggestion could be taken into consideration, but said that the game is "coming along marvelously." Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is expected via the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Store later this year. We'll continue to bring the art updates as long as you promise to keep (creatively) criticizing them.

Capcom's CPS-3 arcade board decrypted at last!

It wouldn't take too many minutes of perusing the archives here to realize that we're fans of obscure emulation feats, and this one certainly ranks pretty high up there. Apparently, Capcom's CPS-3 arcade system board has finally been cracked, which means that the next logical step of bringing titles such as Red Earth, Street Fighter III, and JoJo to the emulation realm has already begun. A post over at Haze's Mame WIP page notes that the challenge has been duly accepted, and we're hoping that it won't be too much longer before success is found. Of course, it sounds like this will not be an exceptionally easy task, but at least half the battle has already been won.

Almost 2 years after the release of the XBOX 360, finally some street fighter fans can rejoice. Street Fighter Anniversary Edition is finally backwards compatible with the 360. This makes Street Fighter 3rd Strike, and Anniversary Edition playable offline and online. Hop online and test your skills against some of the best players in the nation. Hopefully this is good news and we can get some more Street Fighter games playable on the 360.

After our first success with the backwards compatible campaign we did the first time, it is time for part 2. Lets see if we can get Capcom vs SNK2 and Marvel vs Cacpcom 2 backwards compatible now. It only takes 5 minutes to send the team an email , so don’t delay, as the team will probably be starting more in the upcoming weeks.
